
National Park "Russian North" (Russikiy Sever)
was created on the territory of
Kirillovsky district on March 20, 1992 in order to preserve
the unique natural and cultural complexes of
the territory and to use it in recreational and
scietific purposes.
The whole square of the Park is 166,4 thousand hectares.
It impresses with its rich variety of northern flora and fauna.
There are a lot of small and big rivers which flow through the National Park,
and several archeological monuments on the banks of
the rivers which reflect cultural history of the European North of Russia.
On the territory of the Park one can see
more than 1000 different species of plants, 60 of them are
rare palnts and 8 of them are enlisted in
the Red Book. There are 269 different species of animals
and 29 species of fish.
One of the ladmarks of the Park is the Maura Hill
(185 meters above the sea level). There is an ecological trail to the top
of the Hill, where an ancient wooden chapel is located.
The office of the Park is located in the town of Kirillov.
Transport:
By car/bus: The main office of the National Park is in Kirillov, the distance
from Vologda is about 130 km, from Cherepovets (Vologda region) is about 95 km.
By Cruise ship: Numerous cruise ships stop in Goritsy,
which is also part of the Park.
