Brief itinerary

Day 1. Saturday. Petrozavodsk and Kizhi

Meals B

~07:00 (09:00) - Arrival in Petrozavodsk by train from St. Petersburg (Moscow).

Meet by local English-speaking guide.

Breakfast. Walking tour of Petrozavodsk.

~10:15 – 17:15 – Trip to the island of Kizhi by a hydrofoil.

-         Walking tour of Kizhi Museum with local English-speaking guide.

Return to Petrozavodsk.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2. Sunday. Petrozavodsk - Kinerma - Kem

Meals B, L

Breakfast.

~09:00 – 15:00 - Tour to the historical Karelian village of Kinerma.

-         Walk around the village and visit a chapel of the 18th century.

-         Meet local people

-         Lunch with traditional meals.

Return to Petrozavodsk.

15:00 - Tour of the Ethnographic Museum (Museum of Local History and Culture).

Transfer to the train station.

~17:15 – Departure for Kem by evening train (with guide).

Day 3. Monday. Kem – Solovetsky

Meals B

~00:50 – Arrival in Kem, transfer to the hotel.

Overnight at the hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel.

08:00 – Departure for Kem by boat.

10:00 – Arrival on Solovetsky.

Transfer to the hotel.

~14:00 – 17:00 - Walking tour of Solovetsky Fortress and Monastery.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4. Tuesday. Solovetsky – Kem - Murmansk

Meals B, D

Breakfast.

~10:00 – 13:00 - Boat tour to Zayatskiy Island.

Free afternoon.

Transfer to the pier.

~19:00 – Departure for Kem.

~21:00 – Arrival in Kem.

Dinner.

~24:00 - Transfer to the train station.

~01:00 – Departure by train for Murmansk (without guide).

Day 5. Wednesday. Murmansk

~12:00 – Arrival in Murmansk.

12:00 – 16:00 - Tour of Murmansk by car with local English-speaking guide.

-          Murmansk city center.

-          War memorial (Defenders of the Soviet Arctic memorial).

-          Lighthouse memorial.

-          Kursk submarine memorial.

-          Church of the Savior on the Waters.

-          Lenin icebreaker – museum.

Transfer to the hotel.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6. Thursday. Teriberka, the Barents Sea Coast

Meals B

Breakfast.

09:00 – 17:00 – Tour to Teriberka by car with local English-speaking guide.

-          Make photo stops and enjoy tundra landscapes.

-          Explore Teriberka village.

-          Walk along the Arctic Ocean (the Barents Sea).

-          Time for lunch (not included).

-          Weather dependent - hike to the Waterfalls.

Transfer to the airport for the evening flight or to the hotel for one more night in Murmansk.

Petrozavodsk is a nice city with several interesting sights and a perfect starting point for the trips to Kizhi and other cultural and nature landmarks of Karelia.

The island of Kizhi in Lake Onego is famous for the biggest world ensemble of wooden architecture - Kizhi Museum. It is enlisted in UNESCO's World Heritage List.

There are several villages in Karelia which represent the culture and history of the local population. In some villages one can observe the examples of wooden architecture such as small churches and chapels as well as traditional houses.

Solovki (Solovetsky Islands) are located in the western part of the White Sea, less than 100 miles from the Arctic Circle, consisting of 6 big and numerous small islands. There is a famous monastery, dating back to the middle centuries, on the island as well as other historical and cultural monuments.

City of Murmansk

City of Murmansk

The city of Murmansk was founded in 1916. Nowadays, it is the biggest city in the world situated beyond the Arctic Circle.
