Day 2 After breakfast we travel to the village in the vicinity of Petrozavodsk (30 km) for the dog sledding tour.
When we arrive we meet the dogs and the guide tells us about the history of using dogs in the Arctic regions.
After a short briefing we have a chance to hitch up our own sled for a 2 km dog sledding tour in the forest.
While one person sits in the sled, enjoying the ride and nature around, another one controls the dogs, manages the turns and helps the dogs on elevations - just like in Jack London's novels! Of course you can change on one of the stops.
Light lunch is served in the big tent called "Chum" Saami and Nenets type.
After we say good-bye to the dogs we continue to the traditional Karelian village of Kinerma (65 km).
The local lady shows us the village, the Chapel of Our Lady of Smolensk (18th Century) and traditional wooden houses. We are invited for the cooking class of making "kalitkas" (local pies) in the Russian stove. Together with other local specialties our freshly backed kalitkas are served for the dinner which we have in the historical wooden house.
Transfer to Petrozavodsk. Overnight at the hotel in Petrozavodsk.
