Kuril Islands stretch for 1250 km from the southern tip of Kamchatka southwards to the
Japanese island of Hokkaido. The chain consists of 22 main islands (most of which are
volcanically active) and around 30 smaller islets. Besides being a highly active geothermal
area, this region is well-known for its abundant and diverse wildlife. It really is a Heaven
for birders. Larga, Harbor Seal, rare Sea Otter, Steller's Sea Lion, Orca, Minke Whale are the examples of
diverse marine life.
