Arkhangelsk region is situated in the north of the European part of Russia. The coast of the region is washed by the White Sea, the Barents Sea and the Kara Sea. The whole square of the region is 587,4 thousand square kilometers. The total population is 1,3 million people. The region has got vast territories which were inhabited in the middle ages by the Novgorod people. The capital of the region is the city of Arkhangelsk with the population of 360 thousand people. The main places of interest are the city of Arkhangelsk, the old town of Kargopol, the museum of wooden architecture "Malie Karely" as well as two national parks: "Kenozersky" and "Vodlozersky".
